Software Development for Nashville's Health Care Companies

Health care is the industry Nashville is known for, and many of its recurring software needs sit inside it: intake that still runs on faxes, scheduling that lives in three systems, revenue cycle work done by hand. We build custom software and AI for health care operators and for the vendors that sell to them.

How does a Nashville health care company use an outside software team?

An outside team can build software for a workflow that eats staff hours, such as patient intake, referral handling or claim follow-up, doing the clerical part and leaving judgment to your people. When the work involves protected health information, we sign a BAA and build to HIPAA's safeguards before any patient data reaches us.

Building for a city of health care companies

The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce counts more than 900 health care companies in Middle Tennessee and sixteen publicly traded health care companies headquartered in the region. That market includes provider and operator organizations with an operations backlog and the companies around them, selling software, staffing, billing and analytics into hospitals and clinics.

For both, useful software work often falls into one of these:

  • →Patient intake and referrals. Reading forms and referral packets, pulling out the fields the scheduling team needs, and flagging what is missing before anyone calls the patient. Our intake forms workflow page shows the shape.
  • →Scheduling across systems. Matching provider availability, patient preferences and payer rules when the data lives in more than one place. See the scheduling workflow.
  • →Vendor products. A health tech company's next feature, built with its team: a patient app in React Native, an admin console, or an integration a customer is waiting for.

HIPAA and the Tennessee Information Protection Act

Which privacy rules apply depends on where a company sits. When an engagement involves protected health information, we sign a business associate agreement and build to HIPAA's safeguards. Our healthcare page covers how.

The Tennessee Information Protection Act took effect on July 1, 2025. The Tennessee Attorney General describes it as applying to businesses that do business in Tennessee or target its residents, earn more than $25 million in annual revenue, and process the personal information of large numbers of Tennessee consumers. It exempts covered entities and business associates governed by HIPAA, so whether it reaches a health care company depends on whether that company sits inside HIPAA. It also gives a business an affirmative defense if its written privacy policy reasonably conforms to the NIST privacy framework or a comparable one. On regulated builds we scope compliance and privacy requirements in the design phase, with your counsel, so that a data map, retention rules and access controls exist before the first screen does. We do not give legal advice on whether the Act applies to you.

How an engagement works

01

Workflow Audit

We map your existing processes against current AI capabilities in the 90-minute AI workflow audit, identifying exactly where automation creates measurable ROI. The audit is complimentary when it is bundled with a larger build and available as a paid one-off on its own.

02

Build Sprint

A scoped build against a written scope. Prototype, staging, and deployment milestones are agreed in the written scope. Most large builds are fixed-price, with a monthly retainer after launch.

03

Launch + Support

Deployment and handover. Post-launch support and maintenance are scoped per engagement.

Common questions from Nashville businesses

Will you sign a BAA?

Yes, when the engagement involves protected health information. We sign the BAA before any patient data is shared and build to HIPAA's safeguards from the start, not as a retrofit at the end.

Does the Tennessee Information Protection Act affect the software we build?

It can, if your business meets the Act's revenue and data-volume thresholds and is not exempt; the Act exempts HIPAA covered entities and business associates, among others. We do not decide that for you; we scope privacy requirements with your counsel during design, so the system can answer consumer requests and show how data is used.

Can you work with health tech vendors as well as providers?

Yes. A vendor engagement can mean working beside your engineers on a scoped feature or integration, with the code handed over to you at the end.

Is AI safe to use on clinical paperwork?

It can be, for the clerical layer, with limits: the model drafts or extracts, and, depending on the workflow, checks in code and a person decide what is kept. We build an evaluation set from your own documents first and re-run it on every change, so accuracy is measured, not assumed.

Does the one-hour time difference get in the way?

Nashville is on Central time, one hour behind Eastern time in Mt Pleasant, South Carolina, where Code and Trust is based. Prototype, staging, and deployment milestones are agreed in the written scope.
