Biggest Hurdles with Co-founder and CCO Andrew Strickland
Preparing for the hurdles in a software project
This archived company video features Code and Trust co-founder Andrew Strickland, introduced as CCO when it was recorded. Use it as a starting point for thinking about the obstacles between a product idea and a useful first release.
The following is an editorial companion to the archived video, not a transcript.
Before the project starts
Write down the business problem in one sentence, then identify who experiences it and how they handle it today. A request for an app can hide several different problems: slow approvals, duplicate data entry, missing information, or a service customers cannot access easily. Pick the problem that matters most before deciding what to build.
- Name a decision-maker who can resolve scope questions and collect feedback from the people who will use the software.
- List dependencies such as access to existing systems, data quality, third-party integrations, and approvals.
- Separate the first useful release from features that can wait. Record assumptions that need testing before development.
Bring a real example of the current workflow to a project conversation. It gives everyone something concrete to examine and helps turn broad concerns into questions that can be answered.
